Today Charlotte had her medical exam for US immigration. It's official.....she is a peanut. At 10 months she weighs 14.5 pounds and is 26 inches long. Our guide De has been great!! He had all nine families in and out in 30 minutes. We have heard stories of the exams taking hours....so we were very pleased to walk right through. After that we went shopping for clothing and shoes for Charlotte and it looks like we may have to leave our clothes behind to fit everything we bought in the luggage. Shamian Island, the region of Guangzhou we are staying in, is very pleasant; wide tree-lined boulevards with much less traffic compared to Nanchang. So it's very nice for walking, especially with the baby. So today we skipped the bus tour/downtown shopping trip to stroll around the island and shop.....it was great!
Charlotte is doing better every day. She is smiling more and we can even get a laugh out of her. Tonight the four of us went out for Thai food with our friends Jeanne and Jason and their daughter Camille, and Charlotte had a great time. I think being around Camille makes her more outgoing.
Tomorrow most of the day is free. We have a little paperwork to do followed by an evening boat tour and dinner on the Pearl River. I'm sure we'll find time for some shopping too.

I am happy to hear she has a clean bill of health. I just can't wait to get Charlotte and Alexandra together. Alexandra is telling me many things to write in my message, but I don't know how to spell any of them. So, I will just say she is excited to meet her new cousin and loves looking at her pictures each day. Enjoy your last few days in China.
Love, Marybeth
Charlotte is petite but so was Karen. We look forward to the pictures and dialogue every day. She is a cutie.

She is just SO beautiful. We're glad you are through the medical exam and hope you are all feeling better. Emma and Molly send their best to their new friend Charlotte.
Ann has a question for Chris...What's that getting wrapped around Charlotte's little finger? We can see the joy in both of your eyes. As parents we can tell you that the best is yet to come. Ann also says that 14.5 pounds and 26 inches isn't too small, Becky weighed 17 pounds at 12 months. She also says that good things come in small packages. Enjoy the rest of your stay and keep the photos coming! Kathy and Ann
Rather than tossing out clothing you can always hire a second Sherpa to help with the luggage. Hard to believe it's been less than two weeks since you've been gone. Can't wait to see Charlotte in person.
